Assemblyman Reacts To Accusations That NYS Attorney General Was Physically Abusive Towards Women

JAMESTOWN – Assemblyman Andy Goodell (R) is reacting to the allegations levied by four women against New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, accusing him of physical violence.
Two of the women spoke to The New Yorker who broke the story Monday.
“Sometimes the people that protest the loudest are the ones who are engaged in it themselves,” said Goodell. “Obviously very, very disappointing that four women have accused him (Schneiderman) of being violent toward them after drinking.”
Schneiderman filed a lawsuit in February against movie producer Harvey Weinstein and the Weinstein Co. following an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct, saying the company broke New York law by failing to protect employees from “pervasive sexual harassment, intimidation and discrimination.”
In the last 10 years or so, New York has seen its fair share of scandals involving sexual misconduct involving elected state and federal leaders.
“Unfortunately. we’ve seen a number of very high-profile cases along the same level,” said Goodell. “We’ve seen Anthony Weiner who was accused repeatably of sexting with an underage girl, we’ve seen Eliot Spitzer, the former Governor of New York resign in disgrace after it became apparent that he was hiring a prostitute and going out of state to meet up with her.”
The allegations made by the four women are in their infancy stages but Goodell warned things could escalate if charges are brought against Schneiderman who tendered his resignation on Monday night.
“Depending on the nature of the offenses and when they occurred there could be criminal charges,” said Goodell. “Anytime you strike somebody that’s a criminal matter, of course.  “Now, whether or not these women want to press charges and follow up with the police on a criminal investigation that remains to be seen.”
Governor Cuomo reacted to Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s resignation late Monday night.
