A major piece of the Chautauqua Mall may be forced to close its doors, according to a Reuters report on Tuesday.
Bon-Ton Stores Inc., who filed for bankruptcy in February, has eight locations in Western New York including the Chautauqua Mall in Lakewood.
The company has 260 stores across the country.
Bon-Ton hasn’t been profitable in nearly a decade, according to multiple financial media reports.
When Bon-Ton filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Feb. 4, management said it was striving to find a new investor or buyer for the company.
On Monday, the department store chain was up for auction, but the only bidders were liquidators, according to Reuters.
An email to the Bon-Ton’s public relations was not immediately returned.
