OLEAN – An annual fundraising event powered by St.Bonaventure University got underway earlier this morning.
“We’re really hoping that our alumni base, our faculty, our parents, and everyone attached to St. Bonaventure, if they haven’t given their gift to St. Bonaventure thus far this year, then this is a great opportunity to do that,” said Dr. Dennis R. DePerro during an interview at halftime of the men’s basketball game on Wednesday.
The event dubbed #BonaGivingDay is a 24-hour Univ ersity-wide effort that supports all St. Bonaventure students, according to the University’s website.
“You can donate the money to wherever you would like that money to have an impact on, or an area that is special to you,” said DePerro. ” The money provides wonderful support for the university.”
The university says 96 percent of St. Bonaventure students receive financial aid, and all students can benefit from the Bona Fund.
St. Bonaventure is also be accepting checks dated or with a memo for Bona Giving Day and donor gifts over the phone. On campus, there will be opportunities for current students to get involved in Bona Giving Day, as well.
According to the official #BonaGivingDay web page, the university’s goal for the fundraiser this year is 850 gifts.
Last year, the 24-hour push netted the university more than $300,000 from more than 800 donors.
