CHAUTAUQUA – Chautauqua Institution’s Massey Organ recently sustained water damage from melting snow.
President Michael Hill made the announcement in a letter last week stating water caused damage to the ivory keyboards, stops and console of the instruments.
Communications Director Jordan Steves told regional media that the damage was found in a routine inspection. Steves said it appears a leak from the melting snow went under the protective covering. He said experts examined the organ over the weekend.
They believe the computers and other systems, including the pipes, are all fine.
