State Funding Secured For Local Fire Departments

ALBANY – New York State Senator Cathy Young announced that she has secured funding for fire departments across the Southern Tier in the 57th District to help them acquire or upgrade life-saving equipment.
The $500,000 grant was awarded to both professional and volunteer fire departments in Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties, based on applications for equipment or capital improvements submitted over the summer.
Senator Young said this funding will help fire departments accomplish their goal of protecting life and property.
“The brave men and women who serve as firefighters set aside their health and safety to help those in need, responding to emergencies any time of the day or night”.
Senator Young further explained that the type of situations first responders are encountering continues to increase, including residential and commercial fires, water rescues, vehicle accidents and natural disasters.
“It is essential they have the proper emergency equipment to aid in rescues as well as the necessary protective gear when they are battling fires”.
According to Senator Young, having this funding secured during National Fire Prevention Week is a blessing as it is a good time to reflect on the amazing service they provide.
“Our firefighters and first responders are true everyday heroes. It is impossible to place a value on their life-saving contributions to our communities. They respond to fires and emergencies with professionalism, dedication and the utmost concern for the safety of others. I am incredibly grateful to the firefighters in my district, and across New York State”.
Officials recommend taking basic fire precaution measures inside the home. Make sure homes have working smoke detectors with battery replacements conducted often, create a fire escape plan and staging practice drills.
