MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County Sheriff Joe Gerace is unveiling new Sheriff’s cars with a much different look and manufacturer than the classic red and white vehicles.
For more than a decade the Sheriff’s Department drove white and red Chevy Impalas. But Chevrolet pulled the Impala from the police pool. The county had to find another option. The switch to the Ford Interceptor Utility offers many advantages, Gerace explained.
“This platform gives deputies considerably more storage space for equipment they carry. This is especially true for those deputies who are EMTs,” Gerace said. “The vehicle is also all-wheel drive, which is very important for navigating throughout the county in a variety of road conditions.”
“Price, safety and gas mileage were strong factors in the selection,” Gerace added. “The new fleet will be black and gold with a bit of red to maintain the tradition. The red and white cars will still be used until the fleet can be switched over to the new models.”
