JAMESTOWN-Law enforcement officials are reacting to a six-figure grant announced by Senator Cathy Young’s office Thursday to help fight a rapidly-growing drug trafficking problem.
Two years ago, Chautauqua County was added to the list of High Intensity Drug Trafficking (HIDTA) due to the rising heroin problem.
The money will help but “it’s not enough to do what we have to do,” according to Sheriff Joe Gerace.
Chautauqua County has two major Interstate highways — I-86 and I-90 — that run through it, which makes it’s easier for the trafficking of drugs from nearby cities.
