DUNKIRK – Dunkirk Police Department officers, in conjunction with agents of the U.S. Marshall’s office, have arrested Kennie Mota-Cruz, 25, on Wednesday on Roberts Road near East Second Street.
Mota-Cruz was wanted on an assault to murder charge and related felonies out of Worcester, Mass. Police discovered that Mota-Cruz was staying in Dunkirk.
He was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail pending extradition to Massachusetts.
According to sources in Worcester, a warrant was issued for Mota-Cruz last week in connection with the Aug. 24 murder of Jose Ortiz.
Mota-Cruz faces aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed assault with intent to murder and several firearms charges in connection with the death. Police said the killing may involve an effort to collect a debt.
