BUFFALO-Former Dunkirk mayor Richard L. Frey, 85, pled guilty in federal court Wednesday to wire fraud after he defrauded his mayoral financial contributors from 2003-12 according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Frey pilfered nearly $55,000 from multiple Dunkirk business owners claiming they were for his various political campaigns. Frey used the money for his own benefit as he was reportedly in substantial debt.
In addition, the ex-mayor violated a rule for local candidates by failing to disclose his campaign contributions on his report sheet.
The charge carries a maximum 20-year sentence and $250.000 fine.
Sentencing is slated for May 11th at 1 PM in federal court.
