JAMESTOWN – A high-speed chase between Jamestown Police and a man in an alleged stolen vehicle ended when the driver slammed into a tree in a backyard on West 8th Street at 4:55 p.m. Thursday.
Matthew William Buck, 26, of Jamestown was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, third-degree felony criminal possession of stolen property, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, four counts of reckless driving, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and several vehicle and traffic violations. Buck was being held pending arraignment.
Police said they were alerted to a stolen 2017 Toyota Rav4 near Foote Avenue and Water Street. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped off through the City of Jamestown. The Rav4 eventually left the road, slamming head on into a tree in a back yard at 33 West 8th St.
Buck fled on foot and was quickly taken into custody. Police said during the arrest they discovered Buck was in possession of heroin.
