JAMESTOWN – Investigators with the Jamestown Police Department are looking into a number of scam phone calls where scammers claim to be from their department.
Jamestown Police Lt. Wozneak released the news earlier Thursday.
“The scammers are attempting to get personal information to include the person’s credit card information,” said Lt. Wozneak in a news release.
Police want the public to know that they would never solicit anyone’s information in this way. Police said if you receive a phone call like this to treat it as a scam.
Investigators advise residents to never provide personal information to anyone you do not trust or know.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office is also looking into similar scams.
Deputies with that department said scammers are calling from numbers used by investigators at their Little Valley Headquarters.
