Lawyer: Fredonia Police Shooting Was ‘Legal and Legitimate’

FREDONIA – A lawyer representing the Fredonia police officer involved in a fatal officer involved shooting said the officer was charged by a man wielding a knife and that the shooting was legitimate and legal.

Fredonia Police said the incident started as a medical call Monday to 76 Liberty St.

Buffalo Attorney Thomas Burton, who is representing the officer, said the victim brandished aknife and did not obey the officer’s commands to drop the knife.

Police have yet to release the names of the officer or the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police are investigating the incident.
