Maple Springs Man Faces Several Weapons and Illegal Fireworks Charges After DWI Crash

SINCLAIRVILLE-A Maple Springs man is jailed after deputies discovered numerous illegal products in his abandoned vehicle along Rt. 380 near Pickard Rd. Saturday morning according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael J. Thompson, 29, 2252 Summit Ave., reportedly left his vehicle in a ditch after his vehicle struck a telephone pole. While looking through smashed-out windows, deputies allegedly observed an assault rifle with numerous loaded magazines, a sawed off shotgun, commercial fireworks, home-made fireworks, throwing stars and numerous quantities of various ammunition.

Deputies reportedly found Thompson at a near-by residence where they arrested him.

Thompson faces charges of DWI, DWI per se (Misdemeanor), 3rd degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Assault Weapon with Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Devices, Possession of eight magazines (D-Felony), 4th degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Possession of five throwing stars (A-Misdemeanor) and Unlawful Possession of Fireworks (B-Misdemeanor).

Thompson was arraigned in Town of Ellery court where bail was set at $75,000 cash/$150,000 bail.
