NEW YORK – On Wednesday afternoon a woman partly climbed up the statue as part of a protest.
NYPD were quickly on hand, trying to talk her into coming down.
She said she was protesting the separation of migrant parents and their children.
Officers eventually climbed up and cautiously took her into custody.
The statue was evacuated during this incident.
There were no injuries reported.
Earlier in the day seven other protesters were arrested near the statue.
They had put up a banner over the statue’s base that had said “abolish ice!”
