Steamburg Man Charged With Falsely Reporting His Truck Stolen

STEAMBURG – On Thursday, New York State Police Troopers out of SP Jamestown arrested Matthew Mansfield, 26, of Steamburg, charging him with third-degree falsely reporting an incident, making a punishable false written statement and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.

Troopers said on the previous Sunday, Mansfield called 911 to report that his truck was stolen from his property and signed a deposition requesting the responsible party be arrested.

Evidence at the scene where Mansfield’s truck was located and witness interviews revealed that Mansfield’s truck had malfunctioned while Mansfield was driving it.

Troopers then learned that Mansfield walked home when he was unable to get the truck restarted.

Mansfield was placed under arrest and processed at SP Jamestown.

Mansfield’s license had two active suspensions, he was additionally charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.

Mansfield was issued appearance tickets and traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in the town of Cold Spring Court next month.
