WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary James Mattis is expected to send 800 troops to the border with Mexico to help border patrol agents block an on-coming caravan of illegal immigrants from entering the country, according to multiple media outlets.
Troops are not, according to reports, expected to use deadly force, but will help place fencing, walls and offer other technical support as well as medical care and tents for border agents.
The illegal immigrants started in Honduras, rushed the border in Mexico and plan to come to the United States.
Earlier today, President Trump tweeted the news.
“I am bringing out the military for this national emergency,” Trump tweeted.
Details of which troops and other logistical issues are still being worked out.
