JAMESTOWN-A contentious report disseminated and later retracted by WNYNewsNow was proven right Friday after New York State Police released the results of a previously unavailable toxicology report.
State Police Captain Eric Balon told WNYNewsNow Brandon McElrath, 24, was under the influence of four different drugs during his Feb. 17th wreck, including Morphine and Fentanyl. McElrath’s toxicology report came in earlier Friday per Balon.
WNYNewsNow decided to retract the original account that McElrath may have suffered an overdose seconds before crashing his car into an embankment on Interstate 86. State Police told our reporters that they may have been too quick to make a solid determination.
On behalf of our entire staff, we would like to wish the family of Brandon McElrath the best in future endeavors. We must, however, stand by our vision of accurate, fast and dependable reporting as a credible news gathering agency.
