Young: Local Drug Task Forces To Receive A Combined $100 K In Grant Money

ALBANY-Senator Cathy Young (R-Olean) announced Thursday the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force and Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force will receive a combined $100,000 to fight the rapidly growing drug trade.

“Our local law enforcement agencies have the enormous responsibility of protecting our communities and citizens from crime and all manner of threats to public safety,” Young said. “With the emergence of the heroin and opioid crisis, the challenges and dangers faced by our dedicated law enforcement officers have never been greater.”

“This funding will support their critically important work, ensuring extra resources are available to help combat this epidemic.”

Sheriff Joe Gerace told WNYNewsNow Friday he is grateful Young continues to support law enforcement.

Jamestown Police Chief Harry Snellings also added his thanks: “I would like to thank Senator Young for her continued support of the Jamestown Police Department and the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force in our efforts to address the ongoing drug issue in our community. This funding assists us in obtaining necessary equipment used in day-to-day narcotics investigations.”
