Like A Good Neighbor; Agent Claims Widespread Fraud Is Driving Insurance Rates Up

JAMESTOWN – A significant increase in cases of insurance fraud has spurred sharp rate increases for unsuspecting policy holders, local State Farm insurance Agent, Kirk Maberry said.
“New York is bad,” said Maberry during a recent interview from his Fairmount Ave. office.”It’s more prevalent in the cities; Buffalo, Rochester, and New York City, but we see some cases around  Jamestown.”
According to an industry website that deals with the totality of damages caused by fraud, New York State residents are victimized to the tune of more than half a million dollars a day.
Maberry said State Farm spares no expense when it comes to investigating possible fraudulent activity.
“State Farm has an army of people dedicated to investigating insurance fraud,” said Maberry. “They have forensics teams that investigate thoroughly.”
Maberry said insurance fraud happens when, “there is any act committed with the intent to obtain a fraudulent outcome from an insurance process.
So what can you do to protect yourself against fraud?
Maberry encourages people who’ve been involved in a vehicle collisions to get a police report.
“It always shocks me how many people don’t do that,” Maberry said.
