Reed Retains Congressional Seat After Defeating Mitrano

CORNING – Congressman Tom Reed, despite losing in Tompkins and Ontario Counties, defeated Democrat challenger Tracy Mitrano Tuesday evening to retain his seat in the U.S House of Representatives.
Reed defeated Mitrano, 53.7 to 43.9 percent overall (122,881-100,495). In Chautauqua County, Reed received 59.25 percent of the votes (16,579) while Mitrano obtained 40.70% (16,579).
The Congressman thanked his family and other supporters during his victory speech.
“Without family, without friends, without supporters, I don’t know what we would do because we can’t do it without those folks in our lives,” Reed said. “There’s a lot of friends, there’s a lot of love in this room.”
Mitrano conceded the race to Reed shortly before midnight Wednesday morning. Mitrano tweeted the following on her campaign Twitter account: “Minutes ago, I conceded the race to @TomReedCongress. It has been an honor to run this campaign and I sincerely thank everyone who has supported me along the way. Never give up. #NY23”
