LOS ANGELES – Look up on the auction block. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it’s Action Comics Number One and it could bring more than a million dollars at auction.
A well-kept original copy of Superman’s first comic book, from 1938, is up for auction. Profiles in History announced Friday it will auction off a copy of Action Comics Number One on Dec. 19. The comic, featuring the cover of Superman raising a car above his head, is expected to sell for between $800,000 to $1.2 million.
The auction house says the comic is in its original condition and has been rated in fine/very fine condition. The sale comes a few months before the 80th anniversary of Superman’s debut. The auction features other Superman memorabilia, including a costume worn by actor Christopher Reeve in 1983′s “Superman III.”
