Chautauqua County Awarded Funds To Replace Bridge

NORTH HARMONY – A bridge on County Touring Route 18/ Sherman-Stedman Road will be replaced thanks to a recent awarding of funds by the New York State’s Department of Transportation.
The Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities recently received an award of $1.524 million, which officials say will be utilized to replace the bridge that goes over the Prendergast Creek.
“DPF submitted this bridge as a candidate for the program due to a number of bridge deficiencies that were identified through the bi-annual inspections,” said DPF Director Brad Bentley. “With this funding, we anticipate that work on this bridge replacement could begin as early as the Spring of 2019 with an approximate six-month construction duration.”
The BRIDGE NY initiative is administered by the New York State Department of Transportation. The program focuses on bridge and culvert projects that address deteriorated structural conditions, mitigate weight restrictions or long detours, and other factors. The County’s bridge replacement project was among 165 projects awarded throughout the state, which includes 86 bridges and 79 culverts.
These projects were awarded following a competitive selection process that considered, among other factors, the structural condition of a bridge or culvert, capacity, and significance, based upon traffic volumes and detour considerations.
