Lawmakers Considering Revenge Porn Bill

ALBANY – New York State Lawmakers are trying to pass legislation that would allow victims of revenge porn to seek civil damages.
State law already makes it illegal to release or publish nude and/or explicit photos of a person without their permission.
The proposal would create a cause of action to allow victims to seek civil damages and seek injunctions to block the release of such photos.
The law would also allow plaintiffs to file suits under a pseudonym.
Both the Senate and Assembly are considering it but the bill has not been scheduled for a vote.
