106th Ellington Town Picnic Starts Friday

ELLINGTON – A more than 100-year-old tradition continues this Friday as the 106th Ellington Town Picnic fills the town park with amusements, food, music and more.
The festivities, which have been an area staple of fun and family times, kicks off at 3 p.m. with the reception for the Enchanted Ellington Film Festival. From 5:30 to 10 p.m.  the Christian Family Film festival will be held at the Carriage House Cinema.
Also at 5:30 p.m. will be Family Bingo at the Fire Hall.
Food vendors and amusements by Bounce About Inflatables open at 6 p.m. in the park. There will be a Corn Hole tournament across from the hall at 6 p.m. and Happy Days will provide music from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. with prizes for the best 1950s costume.
Saturday is the busiest of bust days at the three-day event.
Registration for the Baby Show is at the fire hall at 9:30 a.m. with the show running from 10 to 11 a.m.
At 11 a.m. there will be a wood cutting contest in the park and at 11:15 is registration for the Pet Show, which runs from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
The Ellington Volunteer Fire Department will serve its traditional Chicken BBQ at 11:30 a.m. Children’s games will be at the Town Picnic Tent at 12:30 p.m.
Flossie and the Gunslingers will perform from 12:30 to 3 p.m. while the Christian Family Film Festival continues at 1 p.m., which is also when the amusements reopen for the day.
If history is one’s interest, historical Ellington items will be displayed at the library from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.. Behind the library, at 2 p.m. will be a horseshoe pitching contest.
Elizabeth Lutgen, 2017 Chautauqua’s Got Talent winner will perform from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.
From 4 to 5 p.m. there will be a children’s film at the Carriage House Cinema.
At 4:15 there will be a dedication of the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance. From 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Pat Cook will perform a tribute to Patsy Cline.
Also at 4:30 p.m., there will be a smorgasboard at the Fire Hall, sponsored by the Ellington United Methodist Women.
The parade lineup is at 5 p.m at the town ball field and the parade starts at 6 p.m.
Crossfire will perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and fireworks will fill the skies at 10 p.m.
Sunday brings a 10 a.m. church service in the park.
At noon the ball field will host the Southern Tier Mini Tractor Pull. Also at noon the Christian Family Film Festival continues.
