After Weeks Of Uncertainty, Downtown Cruise-In Set For Mid August

JAMESTOWN-The Jamestown Cruise-In is an event that some say is critical for the survival of downtown business.

The Jamestown Community Chamber of Commerce will host the show in August after it was recently dumped by the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation.

Event Coordinator Lee Harkness told WNYNewsNow the Renaissance Corporation is acting only as a financial sponsor rather than providing volunteers for the expo.

“If we do a good job and have a nice event it could cost up to $10,000,” said Harkness. “Funding comes from local car dealers, vendors, and each car pays a fee.”

Downtown business owner Judi Sandson lobbied for the event after hearing it was in jeopardy.

“As a small business owner these are the events we rely on,” Sandson said. “These kind of attractions are what helps us grown and stay in business.”

Der Kobblers Automobile Association is one of many groups that will provide volunteers for the event.

Harkness said those interested in displaying their car, becoming a sponsor or vendor to contact him at 716-338-6089.

The event will feature live classic music, various contests, and classic cars.

The cruise-in will take place August 18th in downtown Jamestown.
