MAYVILLE – Longtime County Lawmaker George Borello will be sworn in as Chautauqua County’s eighth County Executive this afternoon.
Borello replaces his friend and colleague Vince Horrigan, who appointed him Chair of the Regional Solutions Commision less than three months after publicly endorsing him as the next County Executive.
Borrello is not resting on his laurels. He said last week that he’s already visiting businesses, as he attempts to fulfill a promise of visiting 100 businesses ses in his first 100 days in office.
“I plan to hit the ground running, (and) in fact I’ve already visited five businesses,” Borrello said earlier this week.
One of Borrello’s accomplishments early on was the establishment of a bipartisan transition team. The team was formed almost immediately after the November elections.
Recently, he expressed a great deal of optimism last month when he spoke about his transition team.
“I am grateful to these prominent community leaders who have agreed to take on this important task to assist me as I prepare to take office,” said Borrello.
“I believe their expertise in the private and public sector will play a key role in elevating Chautauqua County.”
Also at today’s ceremony, County Clerk Larry Barmore will be sworn for his second term.
Following November’s election, Barmore told reporters that there’s more work to do but he’s proud of the things that he’s been able to accomplish so far.
He said the county increased its revenue by $500,000 thanks to people coming from Erie County to use the North County Department of Motor Vehicles office.
We will carry a live stream of the ceremony on our Facebook page.
That broadcast comes directly after our 2017 recap program featuring the 10 most viewed reports of 2017.
The ceremony will take place in the courthouse at 1:00.
