KIRTLAND (Oh.) – Both the Men’s and Women’s JCC Jayhawks basketball teams were defeated on the road by Lakeland Community College Wednesday night.
The Lady Jayhawks lost by a score of 69-52, while the men lost in interim coach Xavier Churnac’s head coaching debut, 77-63.
The Lady Jayhawks turned the ball over 32 times and only made 16-47 shots (34%.)
Olivia Lynn was the only Lady Jayhawk to break double-figures in scoring with 11 points. Lynn also pulled down seven rebounds.
Lynn, however, also committed seven turnovers.
Alexis Rodenbaugh finished with nine points, a team-high nine rebounds and four assists.
Rodenbaugh also committed a game-high eight turnovers.
For Lakeland, Calasia Cunningham scored a game-high 17 points.
Delesha Jackson finished with seven points and six steals.
Ziona Williams scored only four points, but Williams also had four rebounds, six assists, and four steals.
Alicia Sephus posted a double-double off the bench. Sephus scored 12 points and snagged a game-high 11 rebounds.
In men’s action, the Jayhawks made 26-60 shots (43.3%).
The Jayhawks, however, made just two out of 12 three-pointers and struggled heavily from behind the charity stripe, making only nine out of 19 (47.4%).
Tyairus Sands finished with a double-double for the Jayhawks. Sands scored a team-high 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Sands also posted six assists and four steals.
Jared Fish contributed 17 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots.
Chandler Fointno posted a double-double for Lakeland, finishing with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Fointno also added three steals.
John Dawson scored a game-high 21, nailing five three-point buckets. Dawson also had five assists.
Both teams will be back in action on the road Monday night against the University of Pittsburgh-Titusville. Tip-off for the women’s game will be at 5 p.m., while the men’s game will start at 7 p.m.
