POLAND-Brake malfunction caused a four-car accident (originally thought to be two) Friday afternoon on Waterboro Hill Rd. according to the County Sheriff’s Office.
Nicholas G. Hettenbaugh, 21, was reportedly operating a farm semi-truck carrying silage when his engine reportedly shut off, causing the brake malfunction.
Hettenbaugh went into the intersection and attempted to turn right onto Rt. 394 but his truck overturned as he entered the roadway according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Kennedy man reportedly struck three other vehicles that were traveling eastbound on Rt. 394 upon entering the Rt. 394. No injuries resulted from the collision per authorities, but Rt. 394 was shut down for approximately four hours while emergency personnel cleaned up the roadway and spillage.
Hettenbaugh was issued traffic tickets for Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Operating Out of Class and Inadequate Brakes. He will appear in Poland Court on a later date to answer the charges.
Chautauqua County Sheriff Deputies were assisted on scene by Chautauqua County Hazmat and various local Fire Departments.
