County Executive-elect Says There’s Ample Road Salt For Winter

JAMESTOWN – Chautauqua County Executive-elect George Borrello says the county has an ample supply of road salt for the 2017-18 winter season.

“We have budgeted well for salt towards the end of the year, and we also work with other municipalities to purchase salt together,” Borrello said. “That (working together) helps with the cost, and it helps us arm ourselves for the future.”

Borrello said the fluctuating price, based on demand, shouldn’t have a big impact on the quantity.

“Just like any other commodity, (the salt price) is based on demand and we’ve had milder winters overall, so the demand hasn’t been super high,” Borrello added. “As far as I know, we are well prepared for our salt purchases already.”
