MAYVILLE – While primary elections don’t normally gather as much interest as general elections,, this year’s Gubernatorial Democrat Primary battle between Gov. Andrew Cuomo and challenger Cynthia Nixon, may have changed things a bit.
In 2014, Cuomo staved off a challenge from Zephyr Teachout, with 2,706 Chautauqua County Democrats voting.
This year, Cuomo easily defeated actor Nixon, but the vote totals were a relatively robust 4,729 in the county.
Numbers jumped state-wide as well.
In 2014, according to figures from the State Board of Elections website, 594,287 votes were cast in the Democrat primary.
This year, according to the same website, 1,512,912 voters went to the polls.
