Crews Extinguish Fire In Abandoned Apartment, Cause Under Investigation

JAMESTOWN – City of Jamestown Fire Investigators are looking into what caused a small fire up in an unoccupied apartment at 196 Falconer St late Wednesday afternoon.
Battalion Chief Matthew Coon told WNYNewsNow that crews quickly extinguished the fire located on the first floor.
“Fire investigators are on scene now, they are going to be doing their follow-up and conducting interviews with some of the neighbors,” said Coon. “It was not a large fire, confined to one room inside the apartment and there doesn’t appear to be a lot of structural damage.”
Coon said the second floor and basement apartments were occupied and all got out safely.
A separate call nearby sent one person to the hospital. Coon said it was unrelated to the fire and the chief did not know the person’s condition.
Coon said the city’s department of development will inspect the structure to see if the tenets can reenter the building.
