ALBANY – Saying people have long known of the dangers of prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation banning people less than 18 years old from using indoor tanning beds.
“By further limiting our children from exposing themselves to this health risk, we can stop the spread of preventable disease and help save lives,” Cuomo said.
Under current law, children age 17 and older may use indoor tanning facilities without parental consent, significantly increasing the risk for skin cancer among this population, Cuomo said.
