DEC Issues Air Quality Alert

WESTERN NEW YORK – State officials have issued an air quality alert until 11 p.m. Monday because of elevated ozone levels.
New York State DEC officials said that the elderly and those with breathing problems such as asthma should consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity.
Both Lake Erie and Ontario play a key role in trapping pollutants such as ozone from escaping, especially this time of year.
The air off both lakes is colder than the air on land. This creates a cap, or an inversion over our heads, preventing that air to rise and mix out.
