Facebook CEO To Hire 3,000 More People To Help Combat Facebook Live Tragedies

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has started implementing new safeguards for the platform after Steve Stevens recorded himself killing an innocent man, utilizing the Facebook Life feature for the recording.

The company will be hiring 3,000 people to its Community Operations Department. The additional employees will help monitor Facebook Live videos while also helping to remove posts deemed distasteful by the company.

Zuckerberg said, “(The killing’s) heartbreaking” in a post on his own site. The CEO also said he has spent time to reflect on how he can better help the community.

Facebook users are already able to report both live and prerecorded video to administrators.

Zuckerberg also mentioned Facebook will also be making it easier for the end user to report said videos.

Zuckerberg concluded his post discussing how somebody on Facebook Live was considering suicide last week. Facebook was able to call law enforcement, who reacted quickly to save the person from serious injury or death.

“No one should be in this situation in the first place, but if they are, then we should build a safe community that gets them the help they need.”
