ALBANY – This weekend, June 23-24, is Free Fishing Weekend in New York State.
State residents can fish on public waters this weekend without possessing a fishing license, which is required for those 16 or older. All other fishing regulations still apply.
State officials say free fishing weekend is the perfect chance to try fishing for those who never have. It is also a chance for experienced anglers to mentor others who have never fished.
State officials said this weekend is the perfect opportunity to take a youngster fishing. They advise that youngsters will enjoy the fishing experience if their mentors make the trip about them and fish for an easier to catch species such as Crappie, Blue Gill, Perch or other panfish.
