HEAP Program Helps, According To State Officials

WESTERN NEW YORK – As temperatures continue to drop this November, state officials are reminding New York families of the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) and how those who own their own home may qualify.
Under the HEAP New York State guidelines, a family of four can qualify for benefits with an annual gross income of up to $55,178. A family of eight can earn as much as $76,146 and receive HEAP assistance.
National Fuel reports that this month’s heating bill may be a bit more due to lower than average temperatures.
The state also provides an additional discount through the Statewide Low Income Program (SLIP) for families enrolled in HEAP with qualifying incomes.
In addition, special protections can be afforded to households with senior citizens, children under 18 years old, and for the blind or disabled.
National Fuel customers can call (716) 686-6123 for assistance paying gas bills, or go to National Fuel’s payment assistance website. For help applying for HEAP, visit mybenefits.ny.gov.
