JAMESTOWN-Chautauqua County gained its first StartupNY business Thursday as Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the opening of a New Flyer facility at what was formally Quality Markets on Fluvanna Ave.
New Flyer is a transit bus and motor coach manufacturer that boasts numerous facilities throughout North America. The company will hire 40 people throughout the Jamestown area per Hochul.
“Fourty jobs created here (at New Flyer) is significant,” said Hochul. “I come out of a manufacturing family so this is part of who I am as well. It excites me.”
County Executive Vince Horrigan said a year of efforts were needed to bring New Flyer to Jamestown. Mayor Sam Teresi detailed the importance of teamwork during such efforts while meeting with the gaggle of reporters.
“We wouldn’t be starting here today if everyone wasn’t working collectively,” Teresi said.
Hochul said New Flyer is only the beginning for economic development in New York.
“Governor (Andrew) Cuomo will continue to create good jobs in this state,” Hochul said.
Chief Bus Builder Kevin Wood voiced his desire to build buses for larger metropolitan areas throughout the state.
“We want to build buses for the city of New York and that is why we are in Jamestown, NY,” Wood said. “We look for something other than a building. We look for the community we can invest in.”
“We all build the same type of buses and we all use the same engines. What’s the difference?”
WNYNewsNow will have a video report later this afternoon.
No mention of the Owner of the Building and all the work he did to make this happen? The Mayor gets all the credit?
