JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Police Department and Jamestown Board of Public Utilities (BPU) are asking individuals or businesses to call 911 should they receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to work for BPU.
Police say a business reported that a person called them to inform them that they “owed” them a “large” sum of money. The person reportedly instructed the business to pay cash at a certain location, or else their service would be shut off and terminated.
An investigation revealed that this was, indeed a scam, and that the business is in “good standing” with BPU, according to JPD.
The BPU is reminding the community that this isn’t a legitimate policy.
