JCC Basketball Teams Win Regular Season Openers

JAMESTOWN – Both the Men’s and Women’s JCC Jayhawks basketball teams defeated Tompkins Cortland Community College Thursday night to open their regular seasons.
The Lady Jayhawks won by a score of 73-49, while the men narrowly won 82-80.
Haley Hettenbaugh led the way for JCC with a 24-point, 13-rebound double-double. Hettenbaugh also tallied three assists, four steals, and netted six three-pointers.
Nicole Johnson added 12 points and seven rebounds. Jesse Zenns chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds, and three steals off the bench.
The TCCC women’s team made just 34.4% of their shots (21-61), and made just five of 23 three-point attempts.
In men’s action, JCC came back from a 44-26 halftime deficit to win.
Chris Robson led JCC with 18 points, while adding three rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Robson also nailed four three-pointers.
Jared Fish scored 13 points, and snagged nine rebounds.
The TCCC men’s team shot 45.7% (32-70), but went just 3-17 from three-point range. TCCC also struggled at the free-throw line, shooting 13-22 (59.1%.)
The JCC Basketball teams will play again, this time at home, on Saturday against SUNY Broome Community College for the Crossover Classic.
Tip-off for the women’s game will be at 3 p.m., while the men’s game will start at 5 p.m.
