CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY-Chautauqua Lake and Lake Erie have experienced rough conditions this weekend, with four total rescues reported Saturday and Sunday.
Three men were rescued Sunday morning after their boat overturned due to high winds and waves per the County Sheriff’s Office. The trio was reportedly fishing in approximately 18 feet of water off the I-86 Overlook Area when a storm rolled through.
Waves reportedly came over the bow and swamped their small vessel, filling it with water, as the men attempted to turn towards shore.
The men reportedly clung to the vessel’s side until Bemus Rescue transported them to shore.
No injuries were reported.
WDOE in Dunkirk reported the U.S. Coast Guard executed three separate rescue missions on Lake Erie near Erie, Pa. this weekend.
The National Weather Service issued a beach hazards statement from noontime to evening Monday for beaches along Lake Erie in Chautauqua County. Strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions are expected. Swimmers are urged to stay out of the water and away from dangerous areas like piers and breakwalls.
A small craft advisory will continue Monday as waves averaging four feet or more are expected, creating rough waters for a small craft.
