Local Teacher Is 4th In World Triathlon Championships

AUSTRALIA – Cheryl Burns, a teacher at Cassadaga Valley Central School, recently finished fourth in the world in her age group for sprinting as part of the World Triathlon Championships as a member of Team USA.
Burns ran, swam and biked during the world-class event. She was the top American in her sprint age group with a time of 21:44. Her over all time of 1:11:44 was fourth best in her group.
Burns finished 11th in the swimming portion of the triathlon, 4th in cycling and 4th in run. Overall, she was the top American team member in her group. Burns missed first place by only 1 minute, overall, falling to an Australian.
“She’s an inspiration to all of her students, coworkers and anyone she meets, she worked so hard to qualify and compete this year and I know she’ll place again in the future” Rachael Lessinger, a Sophomore, told WNYNewsNow.
