Man Dies After Falling Into Zoar Valley Gorge

ZOAR VALLEY – A man in his early 20’s has died after Cattaraugus County Sheriff Deputies said he fell 70 feet into a gorge at Zoar Valley Sunday afternoon.
First responders used his cellphone signal to locate him.
When medics found him, he reportedly was unconscious with serious head injuries.
The deceased was part of a hiking group.
Due to heavy rain earlier in the day, helicopters were unable to assist. Rescuers reportedly repelled down to rescue the man.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriffs, Department of Environmental Conservation and a number of fire departments helped in the search effort.
Last year, Amanda and William Green were killed after falling from a cliff at Zoar Valley. Their children were also seriously hurt in the incident.
