BUFFALO(AP) — A search is under way in the Niagara River for a member of the Buffalo Police Department’s underwater recovery team who went missing during a training exercise.
Police have identified the missing diver as 34 year-old, Craig Lehner.
The U.S. Coast Guard says the Lehner went missing around 1 p.m. Friday. Several agencies have been involved in the search by boat and helicopter.
Coast Guard officials say that during the search, it was discovered the diver’s cable had broken off. The diver’s secondary dive tanks have been recovered.
Lehner is an eight year department veteran.
