Neighborhood Housing Organization Building Parks; East 2nd St. Location Pegged

JAMESTOWN – A neighborhood housing group is demolishing several buildings in the city to make way for a new park with green space and basketball courts.
“Recreation space is incredibly important,” said Patrick Morris, Executive Director, CODE, Inc.
Morris believes the project, classified as one park in two different locations,  fills a void for the children of the community.
“If children are outside playing they should have grass underneath of their feet not concrete,” said Morris. “That’s why we’re building a nice open area for the kids to play.”
The locations for the new park include East 2nd St. (between the East Side Liquor & The Eastside Family YMCA)  and 5th and 6th Streets.
The funding for the project was made possible from multiple sources.
“About $388,000 in state funds plus about $150,000 in funds from the foundations,” will be used Morris said.
The park is scheduled to be completed by summertime.
