Officials Probing Ford Fusion Steering Woes

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration commenced the probe after receiving three complaints about loose steering wheels.

One complaint was that a steering wheel  fell into the driver’s lap as they drove into a gas station. Two others reported the main steering bolt fell into their laps while driving. There were no reported crashes or injuries.

Investigators are trying to determine how wide-spread the problem may be. Ford is cooperating with the investigation, but as of now no recall has been posted. As of April sales of Ford Fusions has dropped 29.5 percent.

As of 2016, there were 25 on-going recalls for Fusions, according to the Ford recall website.  Among these there were recalls for seat assembly, seat recliner assembly, the electric power assist steering system, automatic transmissions, the engine cooling system, auxiliary fuel tank and wheel lug nuts and bolts.
