Over Eight Thousand Without Power After Wild Wind Storm

UPDATE AT 8:15PM-Cassadaga Valley Central School has canceled classes for Thursday after “significant roof damage” from Wednesday’s wind storm per the schools webpage. 

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY-Thousands of residents are without power Wednesday night after gusty winds brought down power lines across the region.

The National Grid Power Outage Map reports that 8,896 customers are without electricity as of 7PM Wednesday.

The Town of Busti had 1,688 outages after trees brought down lines throughout the afternoon and early evening.

Officials are working to restore electricity, in the meantime, they urge residents to avoid downed power lines and report outages online.

As of 7PM there is no solid estimated restoration time.

In the City of Jamestown, Board of Public Utilities customers could expect discolored water after a power problem at the Cassadaga Well Field.

Weather officials expect winds to continue to gust up to 65 MPH until late Wednesday Evening.
