SOURCE: Family Displaced After Fairview Street Fire

JAMESTOWN – A WNYNewsNow source reports a family was displaced after a basement fire at 154 Fairview Street in Jamestown at about 2:30 Saturday afternoon.

Jamestown Fire Chief Sam Salemme told WNYNewsNow fire investigators are looking for a cause. He reminded people to keep fresh batteries in their smoke detectors.

Homeowner Todd Newbee said his family got out of the house safely. He credited not panicking with getting his family out of the home.

“Keep your wits and don’t get too panicky because that’s when you start doing stupid stuff and lose maybe more than material things,” Newbee said.

Fire officials believe the fire started in the basement of the structure.
