JAMESTOWN-Community recovery activists and law enforcement officials have warned us for months that the opiate epidemic may not have reached its peak.
911 operators dispatched two overdoses Thursday nearly two hours apart from one another in the City of Jamestown.
The first call came in shortly after 5:00 am at 11 West End near E.5th and Fairmount Sts.
Another overdose was reported at 17 Norwood Ave. around 7:30 am.
There’s no word on the condition of either victim. Generally, overdose information is hard to obtain because of the HIPAA laws ( Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996).
“Our mental health treatment is lacking here,” said Rick Huber, the Director of New Programs at The Mental Health Association of Chautauqua County.
“A big part of the drug problem is that people aren’t being treated for the mental health problems that they have,” Huber said.
Why in Gods name do you need to report the addresses of these people. Your need to publicize the address of these medical emergencies will only discourage people to reach out for help.
I agree! That was unnecessary to post their addresses.

It’s encouraging to see statements such as these! When i was in the Dunkirk emergency room, I overheard one of the nurses there talking about a new patient that they had. He was violent and mentally unstable.. she said that they (Dunkirk and Silver Creek) send the “bad ones” to Jone’s Hill… because they don’t want to deal with them. So that means.. my adult children (who have mental illnesses and have both been in Jone’s Hill for inpatient treatment) have to be in the same area as the violent mental health patients. My first born wasn’t an adult in his mind, yet. Only 14 year old mental capabilities. And my daughter, very fragile. Putting them in Jamestown’s mental health facilities was their only choice and only help. When i would go in there to visit, my life and my husband’s life was threatened by patients and my children were terrified. This is not a good mental health facility and I hope they improve conditions.
I disagree,I feel we all should know how close to our own homes it really is.
Really. You just gave them the idea not to reach out by your statement. Just because an address was given does not mean the addicted lived there but were there seeking help. Stating a name is far worse than an address.
The victim from the one on West End is fine. Like always. She does this at least once a month.
How do you know it will discourage people from reaching out for help?
i believe every name and address of those over dose should be published. They always publish name and address of those with a DWI, Murder,Bugulary and more.so why not let the public know the name and address so they can keep and eye out for their community.
ABSOLUTELY!!!
I am sorry but these addicts need to quit. Everyone knows that this is an addicting drug. Why even start? I am just so over everyone defending the addicts. Should have never started.
Rick Huber, are you saying these OD-erst were mentally ill all their life or did they suddenly become mentally ill because they started using drugs and OD’Do? It appears they have just plain became ADDICTED? If they need anything it is detoxing and help with their addiction. They need to be institutionalized for addiction AND NOT BE RELEASED until a certain length of time after they are clean. You are giving them a copout when you label them mentally ill.
First they need to get the address correct. E.5th and Fairmount dont run into each other. Get the facts straight plse.
Right on!
There was no need to post the address or location of the individuals, that’s a violation of not only privacy but HIPPA is it Not? What purpose does it serve?
To the stunted amoebas who felt it was justified crawl back in your holes.
And what exactly is it going to do knowing how close it is? Yeah it sucks…Norwood is literally the next street over from mine but knowing how close it is isn’t going to affect you physically in anyway. As long as you don’t associate with the people involved don’t worry about it. Stick to your own business.
Actually they do.
