WESTERN NEW YORK – Southwestern will return to Orchard Park after defeating Wilson in overtime. Maple Grove advances to Orchard Park as well after beating Salamanca.
The Trojans advance to the next round of the playoffs after winning in an overtime classic against Wilson Lakemen, 45-44.
Senior quarterback, Cole Snyder, threw three touchdown passes, two of them to senior wide receiver Alex Card.
Card also intercepted a pass on defense.
Steve Frerichs, senior quarterback for Wilson, passed for 323 yards, and three touchdowns. Frerichs also rushed for two touchdowns.
After a Trojans touchdown in overtime made the score 45-38, Wilson answered with a touchdown of their own. The Lakemen went for the two point conversion, and were unsuccessful.
With the win, Southwestern will return to Orchard Park for the third consecutive year. The Trojans will take on the winner of today’s 2 p.m. game between the Cleveland Hill Eagles, and the Randolph/Frewsburg merged team.
In other under the lights action, the Maple Grove Red Dragons avenged a loss against Salamanca earlier in the season by defeating them last night 38-7.
Senior, Easton Tanner had a huge night. Tanner finished with 200 yards rushing on 25 carries and two touchdowns. Tanner also caught a touchdown pass.
Senior quarterback, Carson Crist, finished 8-13 passing for 200 yards, and one touchdown.
Maple Grove finished with 506 yards of offense.
The Red Dragons defense held Salamanca to just 196 yards of total offense.
Robert Overton scored the only touchdown of the game for the Warriors on an eight yard run.
Junior, Ayden Reagle, and senior running back/linebacker, Taige Jones led the Maple Grove defense with nine tackles each.
Maple Grove will also advance to play in Orchard Park. The Red Dragons will take on the winner of today’s 1:30 p.m. game between the Clymer/Sherman/Panama Wolfpack, and the Cattaraugus-Little Valley Timberwolves.
