State Offers Medical Marijuana As Option To Opioids

ALBANY – Patients in New York State who are prescribed an opioid will soon have the option of requesting medical marijuana instead thanks to a policy change by the State Department of Health.
On Thursday, the State Department of Health announced the new policy. State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker said medical marijuana is not addictive, as opioids are, so the policy offers a safer alternative for patients.
The policy is expected to be implemented by this fall. There are already conditions for which people can be eligible for medical marijuana, officials said.

  1. We have cancer and cannot get it since it is not available in Chatauqua Co. Not everyone has the ability to travel back and forth to Buffalo. Maybe if we turn into druggies we can get help before we die
